Classes are held on-site at Foxhound Bee Company in a classroom setting with catered lunch, handouts, quality education and a hands-on open hive class. We walk through what it takes to get started and keep bees your first year. Classes sizes are limited to keep the quality of the experience high for our students.

If you’d like to learn about bees and are excited to start backyard beekeeping, this is the class for you. We concentrate a series of classes into a full-day class to make the most of your time and give you an in-depth look at becoming a beekeeper. You can walk into this class, knowing nothing about honeybees, and walk out prepared and excited about your new adventure.

Your class will be taught by experienced beekeepers so you know you are getting great information, taught in a way that isn’t intimidating. Regardless of your age, whether you are male or female, or your beekeeping goals, we do our best to teach a reasonable approach to beekeeping that works best for you.

The class is lecture-based and interactive, so you will get a chance to open a real hive, weather permitting. We do not open hives during periods of rain, impending poor weather, or when temperatures are below 60°. If we won’t be able to open a hive during class, several other opportunities for opening a hive will be scheduled.

During this class, you will get a workbook, credit for a beginner beekeeper book, catered lunch from Chipotle, an opportunity to open one of our on-site colonies, and the confidence to start your own hive. We will provide the protective gear necessary to be safe while opening a hive. If you have your own beekeeping suit, gloves or jacket, please bring it with you if you would like to use it.
